Twinmotion 2020.1 is now available! With just a few clicks, you can own new features that not only turn CAD and BIM models into even more compelling visualizations and immersive experiences, but also offer new options for presentations and reviews.
When you open Twinmotion, you ‘ll notice an improvement in the visual quality of the scene. The appearance of the scene got a great enhancement thanks to Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI), which adds a complete rework of its lighting and shadowing implementation, resulting in a look that feels less like a game and more like real life.
In outdoor scenes, a new sky model, including beautiful afterglows, accurately reflects different locations, seasons and time, which offers much greater physical accuracy to the sky.
New area and volumetric lights make it possible for you to simulate lighting from large surfaces such as ceiling panels, windows…and add more atmosphere elements to your scene such as fog, mist, dust, smoke…. the depth of field functionality in Twinmotion has been enhanced to mimic the effect you ’d get from a real camera. In addition, new auto-exposure options provide a better viewing experience when moving from indoors to outdoors and vice versa.
About materials, X-ray materials, frosted glass materials, luminous glow materials (by the function of SSGI) can display invisible objects blocked by other objects such as vents and pipes, … The ability to add video as a material, which is perfect for TV screen simulations, and flicker simulations, has been added to this release.
Vegetation that looks like the real thing is another key component in Twinmotion. This version’s vegetation system has also been significantly upgraded. First, we would like to introduce a new set of tree assets from procedural organic 3D modeller Xfrog. Each tree asset, which has orders of magnitude more polygons than its predecessor, has 3 tree life stages and responds to the 4 seasons.
The texture resolution of the material has been improved, further enhancing realism. We ’ve added a new two-sided foliage shader with sub-surface scattering to portray the effect of light filtering through leaves, along with wind effect.
Other planting assets, including shrubs/bushes, have been replaced with high-fidelity Quixel Megascans assets.
Visualizing the growth of newly planted plants is key for architects and designers in many architectural and landscape design projects, especially in some cases such as in the case of project bidding funded by a particular municipality. By using the new growth slider introduced in Twinmotion 2020 to combine and scale 3 tree life stages, users can now get a sense of how vegetation will affect an architectural design as it ages, with an option to view the growth of plants and trees across a span of many years.
New vegetation features also include distribution tools for vegetation dispersion tool on geometry, additional grass customization options, and enhanced paint vegetation tool.
Twinmotion’s built-in library of 3D human characters have been replaced with new, high-quality photoscanned assets and all animations have been reworked using motion capture technology, providing a far greater degree of realism to the way characters look and move. Each of the 62 motion-capture animation characters can switch to 5 different outfits, along with 84 new ready-posed characters available, sourced from AXYZ design, which specializes in 3D human character in architecture.
In Twinmotion 2020, in addition to SketchUp Pro, Revit, ARCHICAD, and RIKCAD, Rhino will be added to the list of packages supported by direct links. This synchronizes Rhino and Grasshopper data with just one single click, automatically replaced with Twinmotion’s PBR material while preserving structure and hierarchy. In addition, support for SketchUp Pro 2020 has also been added.
The new Twinmotion Presenter, that replaces the previous standalone viewer – BIMmotion, enables you to share a project in a standalone viewer, so clients and stakeholders can review without having Twinmotion installed. Presentations created in Twinmotion Presenter can be set to show projects from different points of view and camera paths. There are options to set the view to free, guided, or locked, enabling you to choose whether viewers can explore at will, see the project only from preselected positions, or only play back the animation as rendered.
If you need feedbacks on design reviews or non-visual data such as brand names or prices, the new note tools are perfect for ensuring that information is captured in context. Annotations using the Note Tool can be streamlined by exporting them as a zip file to BCF format (IFC standard) and importing them into Revit, ARCHICAD, or many other BIM packages.
